Fältbaserad typisk fallurval är en avsiktlig kvalitativ strategi där forskaren väljer ut och studerar fall som representerar det vanliga, genomsnittliga eller mest förekommande exemplet på ett fenomen — och genomför datainsamling genom direkt fältarbete såsom personliga observationer, platsbesök och ansikte mot ansikte-intervjuer. Kombinationen säkerställer att resultaten skildrar hur fenomenet ser ut under verkliga, vardagliga förhållanden snarare än genom självrapportering eller online-proxyer.
