Komparativ konstruktivistisk grundad teori kombinerar Kathy Charmaz' konstruktivistiska gren av grundad teori med en explicit komparativ design, där data från två eller flera grupper, miljöer eller tidpunkter avsiktligt samlas in och analyseras för att bygga en teori som förklarar variation och likhet mellan olika kontexter. Det konstruktivistiska perspektivet behandlar kategorier och teori som samkonstruerade mellan forskare och deltagare snarare än objektivt upptäckta från data.
