Semi-supervised LightGBM kombinuje visoko efikasan okvir gradijentnog pojačanja (gradient boosting) LightGBM-a sa strategijama polusnadziranog učenja (semi-supervised learning) — najčešće pseudo-označavanjem (pseudo-labeling) ili samostalnim učenjem (self-training) — kako bi se iskoristili veliki skupovi neoznačenih podataka uz manji skup označenih, poboljšavajući prediktivne performanse kada je dobijanje oznaka skupo ili dugotrajno.
