Metod radijalne brzine

Metod radijalne brzine detektuje egzoplanete merenjem Doplerovog pomaka spektralnih linija zvezde, izazvanog gravitacionim uticajem orbitirajućih planeta. Kada planeta orbitira oko zvezde, zvezda se blago njiše ka Zemlji i od nje, stvarajući periodične pomake u svom spektru svetlosti. Prvi put predložen od strane Fridriha Vilhelma Besela u 19. veku i uspešno primenjen na detekciju egzoplaneta 1995. godine, ovaj metod je otkrio skoro polovinu svih poznatih egzoplaneta.
