| Zhrnutie≠ | Ordinary Kriging (OK) is the standard geostatistical method for interpolating a continuous spatial variable at unsampled locations. It derives optimal, unbiased weights from the spatial covariance structure of the data, making it the Best Linear Unbiased Predictor (BLUP) under stationarity assumptions. Unlike simpler distance-based methods, it also provides a prediction uncertainty (kriging variance) at every interpolated point. | Universal kriging generalizes ordinary kriging to data whose mean varies systematically across space — a spatial trend or 'drift'. It models the mean as a function of the coordinates (or covariates) and krigs the residuals, so it can interpolate variables that drift in a preferred direction, such as temperature falling with latitude or a pollutant gradient, while still returning prediction variances. |
