ResumoThe Hodgkin-Huxley model is a mathematical description of how action potentials in neurons are generated by the flow of sodium and potassium ions across the cell membrane. Developed by Alan Hodgkin and Andrew Huxley in 1952, it is a foundational model in neuroscience and earned them the Nobel Prize, establishing quantitative biophysics as a discipline. The integrate-and-fire (IF) model is a simplified neuronal model that captures spike generation by integrating synaptic inputs until membrane potential reaches a threshold, at which point a spike is emitted. First proposed by Louis Lapicque in 1907 and refined with leak (leaky integrate-and-fire, LIF), it remains a standard tool for modeling neural populations and network dynamics due to its computational efficiency.
