This prestige weighting approach accounts for field-specific citation cultures and provides fairer cross-discipline comparisons than raw impact factor. SJR is widely used for journal ranking, quality assessment, and publication targeting, complementing traditional Impact Factor with a prestige dimension. | Journal Impact Factor (JIF) is a metric developed by Eugene Garfield in 1955 and published annually by Clarivate Analytics through Journal Citation Reports (JCR).
