SammendragInterpretive oral history is a qualitative research design that collects and analyzes first-person spoken accounts of the past through an explicitly interpretive lens. Rather than treating recorded testimony as a transparent factual record, it foregrounds the meaning-making process — examining how narrators construct, remember, and frame their experiences — drawing on hermeneutic and interpretive traditions to illuminate subjectivity, memory, and historical consciousness.Interpretive life history research is a qualitative design in which the researcher and participant collaboratively construct a detailed account of the participant's entire life course — or a significant portion of it — and then interpret that account to understand how identity, context, and meaning-making unfold over time. Grounded in an interpretive epistemology, it treats the narrator's life story not as a neutral record of facts but as a meaning-laden construction shaped by culture, social position, and lived experience.
