Het sequentiële gemengde ontwerp met kwantitatieve prioriteit verzamelt en analyseert eerst kwantitatieve gegevens, gevolgd door een kwalitatieve component om de kwantitatieve bevindingen uit te werken, te verklaren of te contextualiseren. De kwantitatieve component krijgt meer gewicht in het algehele onderzoek, wat betekent dat de primaire onderzoeksvragen en conclusies voornamelijk gebaseerd zijn op het kwantitatieve bewijs, waarbij de kwalitatieve component een aanvullende, verklarende rol speelt.
