Selectieve codering — de laatste integratiefase van grounded theory
Selectieve codering is de derde en laatste analytische fase van grounded theory, waarin de onderzoeker systematisch één centrale of kerngroep identificeert die alle andere belangrijke groepen integreert die tijdens open en axiale codering zijn ontwikkeld. Het resultaat is een coherente, op data gegronde inhoudelijke theorie die het belangrijkste sociale proces of fenomeen onder studie verklaart. Eerst geformaliseerd door Glaser en Strauss (1967) en later uitgewerkt door Strauss en Corbin (1990) en Kathy Charmaz (2006), transformeert selectieve codering gefragmenteerde middenniveau-groepen in een verenigd theoretisch verslag.
