TCAS
TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) is een veiligheidssysteem aan boord dat nabijgelegen vliegtuigen detecteert met behulp van radar en Mode C-hoogterapporten, en vervolgens verkeersadviezen (TAs) en aanbevolen botsingsvermijdende manoeuvres (RAs) aan de vliegploeg verstrekt. Sinds 2000 wereldwijd verplicht op commerciële vliegtuigen, wordt TCAS beschouwd als een laatste verdedigingslinie tegen botsingen in de lucht. TCAS II is de meest voorkomende variant; TCAS I is een vereenvoudigde versie die alleen adviezen geeft voor de algemene luchtvaart.
