The Bereavement Risk Index (BRI) is a structured assessment tool designed to identify bereaved individuals at elevated risk for complicated grief, depression, or other adverse bereavement outcomes. By systematically evaluating established risk factors (manner of death, relationship quality, concurrent stressors, prior loss history, social support), the BRI facilitates early identification and risk stratification to guide prevention and targeted intervention.
