参加型探索的逐次型混合研究法（Participatory Exploratory Sequential Mixed Methods）は、2つの段階からなるデザインであり、初期の質的段階（コミュニティメンバーと共に行い、コミュニティメンバーによって実施される）で得られた知見を用いて、量的調査票または介入を構築または改良し、それを第2段階で検証します。参加型という視点は、影響を受けるコミュニティが、両段階を通じて研究アジェンダ、データ、および解釈を共同で所有することを保証します。
