Developed by Paloutzian and Ellison in 1982, the SWBS has become a cornerstone assessment tool in palliative care, chaplaincy, and oncology to identify unmet spiritual needs, guide supportive interventions, and evaluate the impact of spiritual care programs on patient outcomes.
