Introduced by Farhi, Goldstone, and Gutmann in 2014, QAOA encodes optimization problems into quantum circuits and uses classical optimization to tune circuit parameters, aiming to find approximately optimal solutions for problems like MaxCut, graph coloring, and scheduling.
