Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) היא פרדיגמת העברה המקדימה תווית קצרה למנות, ומאפשרת לנתבים לקבל החלטות העברה על בסיס התווית ולא על בסיס כתובת היעד של ה-IP. MPLS, שהוצגה על ידי IETF (2001), תוכננה לאפשר הנדסת תעבורה, יצירת VPN וניתוב מחדש מהיר ברשתות IP. בעוד שמורכבות ה-MPLS גבוהה, היא נותרה יסודית בתשתיות ספקיות שירותים עבור הנדסת תעבורה ואספקת איכות שירות (QoS).
