הערכה ואופטימיזציה של יעילות השימוש בחנקן (NUE) היא תהליך אנליטי להערכת מידת האפקטיביות שבה גידולים ממירים חנקן דשן שהופק למזון, ביומסה או תפוקה כלכלית. שיטה זו, שפותחה על ידי חוקרי אגרונומיה (Dobermann, Raun) בשנות ה-2000, מכמתת אובדני חנקן ומזהה פרקטיקות ניהול לשיפור הן של תפוקת הגידולים והן של הקיימות הסביבתית.
