Dendrokronologinen menetelmä
Dendrokronologia on puiden vuosirenkaiden ajoituksen ja analysoinnin tiede, jolla rekonstruoidaan menneitä ilmasto-olosuhteita, kronologioita ja puiden kasvumalleja. Andrew Ellicott Douglassin 1900-luvun alussa edelläkävijänä ja Fritsin ja hänen kollegoidensa muotoilemana dendrokronologia mahdollistaa historiallisten puunäytteiden tarkan ajoituksen ja tuottaa tuhansia vuosia kattavia ilmastotietueita, mikä tekee siitä välttämättömän paleoklimatologialle, arkeologialle ja metsäekologialle.
