Participatory quantitative-priority mixed design combines a community-engaged, participatory research framework with a mixed methods structure in which the quantitative strand carries primary weight. Stakeholders and community members co-shape research questions, instruments, and interpretation, while quantitative data provide the dominant evidence base and qualitative data serve a complementary, explanatory, or contextualizing role. When to use it
Use this design when the central research question requires quantitative evidence for credibility and generalizability, but community ownership, cultural validity, and participatory legitimacy are also essential — as in applied evaluation, public health, education reform, or social-justice research. It is particularly appropriate when the target population has historically been excluded from research processes or when uptake of findings depends on community trust.
