Dendrokronologisk metode

Dendrokronologi er videnskaben om datering og analyse af træringe for at rekonstruere tidligere klimatiske forhold, kronologier og trævækstmønstre. Pioneret af Andrew Ellicott Douglass i begyndelsen af det tyvende århundrede og formaliseret af Fritts og kolleger, muliggør dendrokronologi præcis datering af historiske træprøver og genererer tusindårige klimadata, hvilket gør den uundværlig for palæoklimatologi, arkæologi og skovøkologi.
