Den risikobaserede Taguchi-metode kombinerer Genichi Taguchis ramme for robust parameterdesign med eksplicit risikoidentifikation og -kvantificering. Ved at lægge et risikovurderingslag oven på den standard signal-støj-forhold-optimeringsproces — typisk baseret på fejltilstandsanalyser eller probabilistiske kriterier — vælger tilgangen faktorniveauer, der samtidigt maksimerer ydeevnerobusthed og minimerer sandsynligheden eller alvoren af proces-/produktfejl.
