Rumslig Bayesiansk inferens anvender Bayesiansk hierarkisk modellering på data indekseret efter geografisk placering. Ved at placere strukturerede rumlige priors på lokationsspecifikke tilfældige effekter, låner modellen information fra naboregioner eller nærliggende punkter, hvilket producerer glatte, usikkerhedskvantificerede kort over ethvert rumligt varierende udfald – sygdomsrater, forureningsniveauer, artsrigdom eller miljørisiko.
