সংক্ষিপ্ত-রূপ স্কেল উন্নয়ন হলো একটি পূর্ণাঙ্গ মনস্তাত্ত্বিক স্কেলকে কয়েকটি নির্বাচিত প্রশ্নে কমিয়ে আনার পদ্ধতিগত প্রক্রিয়া, যেখানে মূল যন্ত্রটির গঠনগত বৈধতা (construct validity), নির্ভরযোগ্যতা (reliability) এবং পরিমাপক বৈশিষ্ট্যগুলি বজায় রাখা হয়। যখন মনস্তাত্ত্বিক গুণমান বিসর্জন না দিয়ে প্রয়োগের বোঝা কমানো প্রয়োজন হয়, তখন এটি ব্যাপকভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
