يقارن اختبار ت البايزي لعينة واحدة متوسط مجموعة واحدة بقيمة مرجعية ثابتة باستخدام عامل بايز بدلاً من قيمة الاحتمال (p-value). يقوم بقياس الأدلة التي توفرها البيانات لصالح الفرضية الصفرية (المتوسط يساوي القيمة المرجعية) مقابل الفرضية البديلة، وينتج توزيعًا لاحقًا كاملاً لحجم التأثير - مما يتيح تقديم بيانات حول الحجم العملي، وليس مجرد قرار ثنائي بالرفض أو القبول.
