يمتد تحليل الفئات الكامنة البايزي على تحليل الفئات الكامنة الكلاسيكي من خلال وضع توزيعات مسبقة على جميع معلمات النموذج واستخدام الاستدلال اللاحق - عادةً عبر MCMC - لتصنيف الأفراد إلى مجموعات فئوية غير مرئية، وقياس عدم اليقين حول عضوية الفئة، واختيار عدد الفئات بطريقة مبدئية واحتمالية.
