Developed by Ritsher, Otilingam, and Grajales in 2003, the ISMI captures five dimensions of internalized stigma: alienation, stereotype endorsement, perceived discrimination, social withdrawal, and stigma resistance. Wade, and Stephanie Haake in 2006, the SSSH captures self-directed stigma about help-seeking—the belief that seeking help is shameful or will lead to negative judgments by others.
