Test statistic

A numerical value computed from sample data used to evaluate a null hypothesis in a statistical test. It measures how far the observed data deviate from what is expected under the null hypothesis. Common examples include the t-statistic, F-statistic, z-score, and chi-square statistic; the computed value is compared to a critical value or used to derive a p-value.
