Spectrum bias

The phenomenon in which the diagnostic accuracy measures of a test — sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values — vary depending on the spectrum of disease severity in the population being tested. Tests developed on clearly defined cases may overestimate performance when applied to general populations containing mild or ambiguous presentations.
