Elementary event

An event consisting of exactly one outcome from the sample space; it cannot be decomposed into simpler events. The sample space is the union of all elementary events, which are mutually exclusive and exhaustive. For a die roll, {3} is an elementary event; compound events are unions of one or more elementary events.
