Utvärderingsfokuserad förklarande sekventiell mixed methods är en tvåfasig forskningsdesign där en kvantitativ utvärderingsfas — som typiskt mäter programresultat, behandlingseffekter eller prestationsindikatorer — genomförs först och sedan följs av en kvalitativ fas som specifikt är utformad för att förklara, kontextualisera eller tolka de kvantitativa resultaten. Designen används i stor utsträckning inom programutvärdering, policyforskning och utbildningsbedömning där siffror avslöjar vad som hände men kvalitativa data avslöjar varför.
