By comparing maps across periods, researchers can chart how topics emerge, peak, decline, or transform within a research field, producing a longitudinal picture of knowledge structure that a single-point mapping review cannot provide. | A scoping review is a systematic evidence-synthesis method that maps the breadth and nature of research on a topic — identifying key concepts, evidence types, and gaps — without necessarily appraising study quality or pooling effect sizes.
