De Remote Delphi Techniek past het gestructureerde iteratieve consensusproces van de klassieke Delphi-methode volledig toe via communicatiekanalen op afstand — e-mail, webgebaseerde enquêteplatforms of gespecialiseerde samenwerkingstools — waardoor geografische co-aanwezigheid overbodig wordt. Experts voltooien opeenvolgende enquêterondes asynchroon en ontvangen geanonimiseerde statistische samenvattingen van de eerdere reacties van de groep vóór elke nieuwe ronde, totdat een vooraf gedefinieerde consensusdrempel is bereikt.
