Fully Convolutional Network (FCN)
Het Fully Convolutional Network (FCN), geïntroduceerd door Long, Shelhamer en Darrell op CVPR 2015, was de eerste end-to-end deep learning-architectuur die getraind werd om dichte pixel-wise semantische segmentatiemappen te produceren uit beelden van willekeurige grootte. Door de volledig verbonden lagen van een classificatie-CNN te vervangen door convolutielagen en geleerde upsampling toe te voegen via getransponeerde convoluties en skip-verbindingen, maakte FCN de directe voorspelling mogelijk van een klasselabel voor elke pixel in een beeld, waarmee de blauwdruk werd gelegd voor alle daaropvolgende segmentatie-architecturen, waaronder U-Net en DeepLab.
