RingkasanThe PHQ-9 is a brief, nine-item self-report questionnaire developed by Kroenke, Spitzer, and Williams to screen for and measure the severity of depressive symptoms. Published in 2001 in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, it has become one of the most widely used depression screening instruments globally. The scale maps directly to DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder, making it valuable in both clinical and research settings. The Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology is a 16-item assessment designed by A. John Rush and colleagues to efficiently measure the severity of depressive symptoms in adults. Published in Biological Psychiatry in 2003, the QIDS exists in both self-report (QIDS-SR) and clinician-rated (QIDS-C) versions. It was developed as a brief alternative to the longer Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (IDS, 30 items) while maintaining comprehensive coverage of DSM-IV depressive symptoms. The QIDS has become a standard outcome measure in treatment research, particularly in large comparative effectiveness trials.
