Developed by animal nutrition scientists in the mid-20th century, FCR quantifies how efficiently livestock convert dietary nutrients into meat, milk, eggs, or other products. It is a primary driver of profitability in commercial animal agriculture and a focus of genetic selection in breeding programs.
