Pertukaran kunci Diffie-Hellman, yang ditemukan oleh Whitfield Diffie dan Martin Hellman pada tahun 1976, adalah protokol fundamental untuk membangun rahasia bersama melalui saluran komunikasi yang tidak aman. Dua pihak yang belum pernah berkomunikasi sebelumnya dapat menggunakan Diffie-Hellman untuk menyepakati kunci enkripsi simetris yang tidak dapat dengan mudah diturunkan oleh penyadap, bahkan setelah mengamati semua pertukaran publik.
