איסוף נתוני חיישנים ניידים משתמש בחיישנים המובנים בסמארטפונים, טאבלטים או מכשירים לבישים כדי ללכוד נתונים התנהגותיים, פיזיולוגיים וסביבתיים בסביבות העולם האמיתי. חיישנים כגון מדי תאוצה (accelerometers), GPS, מדי דופק, גלאי אור סביבתי ומיקרופונים מתעדים נתונים באופן פסיבי או לפי דרישה, ומאפשרים לחוקרים לחקור התנהגות אנושית ברזולוציית זמן גבוהה מחוץ למעבדה.
