אתנוגרפיה אורכית היא תכנון מחקר איכותני שבו החוקר מבצע עבודת שדה מתמשכת וחוזרת עם אותה קהילה, ארגון או קבוצה לאורך תקופה ממושכת — חודשים עד עשורים. על ידי חזרה לשדה בנקודות זמן מרובות, החוקר לוכד כיצד תהליכים חברתיים, משמעויות ומבנים מתפתחים, מה שהופך אותה לשיטה האיכותנית היחידה המסוגלת לצפות ישירות בשינוי ובהמשכיות בחוויה החיה.
