השיטה ההשוואתית
השיטה ההשוואתית היא טכניקה יסודית בבלשנות היסטורית לשחזור שפות אם קדומות ולקביעת קשרים גנטיים בין שפות קרובות. היא פותחה על ידי סר ויליאם ג'ונס בשנת 1786, ומשווה באופן שיטתי תכונות פונולוגיות, מורפולוגיות ולקסיקליות בין שפות כדי לזהות התאמות צליליות סדירות ולאתר את מקורן המשותף. שיטה זו מהווה את הבסיס לבלשנות ההיסטורית המודרנית והייתה חיונית להבנת משפחות שפות ברחבי העולם.
