Sanapohjainen tunneanalyysi laskee tunnetta sanatasolla käyttäen valmiita tunnesanakirjoja, kuten AFINN (Nielsen, 2011), SentiWordNet, VADER (Hutto & Gilbert, 2014) ja NRC Emotion Lexicon. Se pisteyttää tekstiä etsimällä sanoja ladatuista termeistä, joten se ei vaadi merkittyä opetusdataa.
