Alta-analyysi
Alta-analyysi on sedimenttialtaiden syvyyden muutosten kvantitatiivinen tutkimus geologisen ajan kuluessa, jota ohjaavat tektoniikka, isotasia ja kuormitus. McKenzie (1978) ja Sclater ja Christie (1980) formalisoivat tämän menetelmän, joka paljastaa altaiden kehityksen mekaaniset syyt, ennustaa maanalaiset lämpötila- ja painehistoriat sekä rajoittaa öljyn muodostumista. Analyysi yhdistää kerrostumien stratigrafian, seismisen geometrian, gravitaatiotiedot ja lämpömallit altaan kehityksen rekonstruoimiseksi.
