طرح تحقیق ترکیبی چندمرحلهای با وزن برابر، یک چارچوب تحقیقاتی دقیق است که در آن به رشتههای کمی و کیفی اولویت برابر اختصاص داده شده و در سه فاز یا بیشتر، متوالی یا تکراری، اجرا میشوند. هر فاز، فاز بعدی را آگاه میسازد و هیچ رشتهای تابع دیگری تلقی نمیشود. این طرح بهویژه برای پروژههای بزرگ، طولی، یا ارزیابی برنامه که نیازمند گستردگی و عمق در طول زمان هستند، مناسب است.
