Faktorianalüüs skaala arendamisel

Avastav faktorianalüüs (EFA) on statistiline meetod, mille abil avastatakse esemete või muutujate kogumi aluseks olev dimensiooniline struktuur. Louis Thurstone'i poolt 20. sajandi keskpaigas teerajatud EFA-d kasutatakse laialdaselt psühhomeetriliste skaalade arendamiseks ja valideerimiseks, tuvastades omavahel korreleeruvaid esemete rühmi, paljastades seeläbi mõõdetava konstrukti latentsed dimensioonid. Meetod taandab esemete kogumid väiksemale hulgale tõlgendatavatele faktoritele.
