KokkuvõteThe fixed effects (FE) model is the workhorse estimator for panel data when unobserved unit-specific characteristics are suspected to correlate with the regressors. By absorbing each entity's time-invariant heterogeneity into a separate intercept, FE isolates the causal effect of within-unit variation and eliminates omitted-variable bias from time-constant confounders. The Hausman specification test for panel data determines whether individual-specific effects are correlated with the regressors — a correlation that would make the random effects estimator inconsistent. A statistically significant result favours the fixed effects model; a non-significant result supports the more efficient random effects model.
