Significance level

The pre-specified probability threshold (α, commonly 0.05 or 0.01) for rejecting the null hypothesis when it is true, thereby controlling the Type I error rate. If the p-value of the test statistic falls below α, the null hypothesis is rejected. It must be set before data collection to be valid.
