Point estimation

The use of sample data to compute a single numerical value as an estimate of an unknown population parameter. Common point estimators include the sample mean, sample proportion, and maximum likelihood estimator. Unlike interval estimation, a point estimate conveys no information about the precision or uncertainty of the estimate.
