Null hypothesis

The default hypothesis in statistical testing, typically asserting no effect, no difference, or independence between variables; denoted H₀. The test statistic is computed assuming H₀ is true. Rejecting H₀ when the p-value falls below the significance level provides evidence in favor of the alternative hypothesis.
