Mutual exclusivity

The property of two or more events that cannot occur simultaneously. If A and B are mutually exclusive, then P(A ∩ B) = 0, and the addition rule simplifies to P(A ∪ B) = P(A) + P(B). Mutual exclusivity does not imply independence; in fact, two mutually exclusive events with positive probability are always dependent.
