I modsætning til det standard indlejrede design, hvor en dominerende datastrøm driver studiet, og den anden spiller en støttende rolle, behandler lige-vægtet varianten begge datastrømme som ligeværdige bidragydere til forståelsen af forskningsproblemet, hvilket kræver en stringent analyse af begge før integration.
