Longitudinal Konstruktivistisk Grounded Theory kombinerer Kathy Charmaz' konstruktivistiske variant af grounded theory — som fremhæver den fælles skabelse af mening mellem forsker og deltagere — med et multi-wave, tidsudvidet dataindsamlingsdesign. I stedet for at fange et enkelt øjebliksbillede, vender forskeren tilbage til de samme deltagere på to eller flere tidspunkter, hvilket tillader den fremvoksende teori at spore, hvordan processer, identiteter og sociale betydninger udvikler sig, skifter eller stabiliseres over tid.
